What's up with the "Lizard people" conspiracy?

I wanted to find out more about the "reptilian elite" conspiracy.
You may think nobody would believe such a crazy theory. But a few days ago there was an armed man in Washington screaming about the arrival of "lizard people":

"Rifle-wielding man warning of ‘lizard people’ detained after blocking Pacific Avenue, deputies say"

"An Eatonville man waving around an AK-47 and screaming about the arrival of “lizard people” was detained after stopping traffic on Pacific Avenue in Parkland on Saturday evening, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.
The 54-year-old, who deputies said was intoxicated, was taken to an area hospital for a 14-day mental health evaluation, a Thursday afternoon news release said."

After reading more about the"reptilian elite", I couldn't help but think about Trump. Really.
Had he been a democrat, Trump would have most likely been accused of being a lizard person following his slurred speech declaring Jerusalem the capital of Israel.

Cenk Uygur jokes about it: "I knew it, lizard people":

"Is Donald Trump Losing His Mind Or His Teeth?"

Uygur may just be joking, but he may be on to something. Conspiratorial right-wingers would have most likely declare Trump (had he been a democrat) a Lizard person.
Especially because anti-Semitism runs deep in conspiracy circles:

"Old Trafford cancels 'lizard people' conspiracy theorist

David

Icke talk over anti-Semitism

claims"

'A planned talk by controversial

conspiracy theorist David Icke at
Manchester United's Old Trafford
stadium has been cancelled following
complaints.
Icke, best known for believing that the
world is controlled by shape-shifting
lizard-people, is on tour promoting his
latest book Everything You Need to Know
but Have Never Been Told and has already
played in Edinburgh and London.'
'Campaign groups urged the event to be
cancelled due to Icke's previous alleged
anti-Semitic theories, including
questioning the recognised history of
the Holocaust and claiming the world is
governed by the "Rothschild Zionists".'

In general, people would never believe any conspiracy (we're too busy paying bills & surviving). Nevertheless, there will always be people willing to believe their current less than ideal (to say the least) circumstances are caused by a sci-fi conspiracy (instead of by the very wealthy/corporations controlling government).

Still, if you want to know more about this particular conspiracy theory, "Time" magazine (of all places) has an article with more information:
http://content.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1860871_1860876_1861029,00.html

"They are among us. Blood-drinking, flesh-eating, shape-shifting extraterrestrial reptilian humanoids with only one objective in their cold-blooded little heads: to enslave the human race. They are our leaders, our corporate executives, our beloved Oscar-winning actors and Grammy-winning singers, and they're responsible for the Holocaust, the Oklahoma City bombings and the 9/11 attacks ..."
