The pundit used the quote to describe the decision made last night by the people in Alabama. & he was right.
However, during other TV shows, political pundits were already saying Doug Jones shouldn't take progressive stances while serving in congress. Obviously, news-media types always view political issues from a right-leaning perspective. But simply put, regardless of left or right ideologies, all Jones has to do to keep his seat is whatever political action benefits the people of Alabama. Especially those constituencies who voted for him: blacks, moderates, those under 45, and women.
Also today, I watched footage of democrats demanding Jones be seated before congress votes on the Trump tax plan. But again, right after the footage was shown, pundits claimed that's "not gonna happen" as if answering on behalf of the GOP without being asked.
& speaking of the Trump tax bill, apparently the house & the senate GOP have already reached an agreement:
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/13/us/politics/tax-bill-republicans-deal.html
"Details on the deal were not immediately available. On Tuesday, Republicans said they were close to agreement on a package that included a cut in the corporate tax rate to 21 percent, from a high of 35 percent today, and reducing the top income tax rate for individuals to 37 percent from 39.6 percent."
As you can see from the NYTimes article above, the very wealthy & corporations will be big winners. As for the rest of us, despite Trump's lies, all we have is uncertainness & confusion. & taking into account "a final version of the tax bill remains to be seen","Business Insider" nevertheless has a list of tax moves to make now before Trump's tax plan goes into effect:
http://www.businessinsider.com/last-minute-tax-moves-before-trumps-tax-plan-takes-effect-2017-12
"The Republicans' tax plan might be passed soon.
In case it does, there are some things you can do now to prepare for the looming changes. Although a final version of the tax bill remains to be seen, there are certain steps folks can take now to get ready in case tax reform goes into effect for 2018..."
So we're back to reality, Doug Jones won last night, but we still have to face the reality of the #TrumpTax bill (or insane giveaways to the rich) passing before Christmas.
