Because the bike parade started at noon & I got there after 5pm.
I tried to get into the concert area but bicycles were not allowed. Thus, I had to backtrack & leave my bicycle at the bike rack & then head back in.
I've always liked the statue at the entrance to Tempe town lake honoring police officers & firefighters because it also includes a statue to canine units (German shepherds have been in my family since I was a kid).
Once I got in, I tried to buy beer but was told I needed a wristband as well as a "beer token". So I went ahead & did that. Then I got a burrito at the "Macayo's" stand & it was great. I gotta admit I haven't been to Macayo's in a while but the quality of their vendor food made want to frequent their establishment once again. While I ate I saw the "Yo-Yo" guy act:
Then I just kept drinking beer: Belgian something; lighter color is all I know but it had a good aftertaste for a craft beer & it wasn't too bitter. There were cycling contests like the one below (pretty good live music too):
There was also a dance contest later in the night (a young woman contestant dancing in photo above), But I think the dude who won (bottom two pictures) hurt his back. Nevertheless he won a cool bicycle:
Then last night, I went to "Punk in Drublic" which was billed as a "craft beer & Music festival". I had to drive all the way to West Phoenix where I was charged $10 to park.
Just like a couple of weeks ago at "tour de fat", I got there later than I wanted to. & there was no "Macayo's" vendor stand. But I did get french fries from one of the vendors and craft beer from another.
& was able to catch the "Goldfinger" set:
Never really seen "Goldfinger" before (that I can remember) but I liked the energy and the performance was solid.
However, I did not really like the beer (too hoppy for my taste). Nevertheless, I figured it could just be an "acquired taste" as they say, so I bought another beer (& more food).
The second beer wasn't any better (for me at least), but I figured I'd just buy another, what the hell?
Afterwards, "NOFX" took the stage.
I hadn't been to an "NOFX" concert in a long time but as you (may be able to see: photo is blurry) "Fat Mike" appears to have lost some weight since I last saw him & he was able to fit into the dress with no problem:
I was into my fourth beer by this time; kinda too many beers for someone who supposedly didn't like the hoppy taste but hey, who are you to judge me?
NOFX played "eat the meek", "Bob", "idiots are taking over", and other favorites. However, they didn't play many other favorites like "drugs are good" which is understandable since their playing time was limited because "Bad Religion" was the headliner:
By the time "Bad Religion" took the stage & was just drinking water while singing along to some of their better known songs like "stranger than fiction", "fuck you", and "21st century boy".
Despite me not liking the beer very much (which taste is subjective so I won't name brand name: though I did buy a lot of their product), I did enjoy the "punk in drublic" festival: concertgoers were friendly & the bands played with intensity and energy. Which is not a surprise since the bands are professionals who've been playing for years: I was bummed I didn't get to see "Authority Zero", "Guttermouth" etc, but the lead singer from "Goldfinger" said something along the lines of "Authority Zero" played like they were the headliners, & I believe it.
