The republicans and Alabama senate candidate Roy Moore

I figured the results from the Roy Moore campaign for U.S. senate were a foregone conclusion. Alabama would elect anyone (even Roy Moore who is accused of pedophilia) as long as he had an "R" next to his name, so Moore would be the next Alabama senator.

But days later, after attacks from both republicans & democrats, things are not so clear & developments are getting crazier.
The tactics of Moore's supporters just keep getting dirtier, even anti-Semitic, i.e. inventing a Washington Post reporter by the name of Bernie Bernstein:

"Roy Moore scandal reaches new level of crazy with fake 'Bernie Bernstein' robocall"

"Just when it seemed the Roy Moore sexual assault scandal couldn't get more unbelievable, someone went ahead and pretended to be a Washington Post reporter in a robocall."

In addition, other tactics involve saying grown men dating teenage girls (one as young as fourteen) is like Joseph & Mary:
"Alabama state official invokes Joseph and Mary to defend Roy Moore"

Harvey Weinstein, Louis CK, Kevin Spacey, etc. have all suffered consequences for their actions: fired from movies, having their contracts cancelled, stripped from academy memberships. Yet Roy Moore will avoid any consequences and will most likely become a member of the upper chamber, the United States senate. But it doesn't mean everyone will accept it. As a consequence, the justifications from Moore's supporters are becoming bizarre & offensive.

Roy Moore's lawyer, Trenton Garmon, justified Roy Moore's actions by basically asking MSNBC's host Ali Velshi (to paraphrase): "People in your 'background' date children, so you know what I'm saying? Am I right?". Fortunately, Velshi's co-anchor Stephanie Ruhle had the right line of questioning:

'Roy Moore’s Lawyer: People With a “Diverse Background” Like Ali Velshi’s Are OK With Child Marriage'

"Garmon: Sure, that’s a good question. Culturally speaking, obviously there’s differences—looked up Ali’s background there. Wow—that’s awesome that you’ve got such a diverse background. That’s really cool to read through that. But point is—
Ruhle: What does Ali’s “background have to do with dating a 14 year old?
Garmon: I’m not finished with the context of it. Point of this is—
Ruhle: Please answer. What does Ali Velshi’s background have to do with dating children, 14 year old girls?
Garmon: Sure. In other countries, there’s arrangement through parents, for what we would refer to as consensual marriage."
