Trump rescinds the "Dreamers" program

Trump rescinded DACA today. & in the process (in my opinion), he showed cruelty (I agree with Obama), vindictiveness (against an executive action by Obama who the Donald apparently hates), & a complete lack of moral leadership.

There are some news-media pundits trying to describe Trump as "torn" about DACA's future, I don't buy it for one second. Trump didn't even announce the decision himself, instead he utilized A.G. Sessions as a spokesman (during the announcement, Sessions described the Dreamers as "illegal aliens": an offensive term & nod from Trump/Sessions to the anti-immigrant (alt) right, no doubt).

Also, Trump could've just renewed the program. Let's remember today was just an arbitrary deadline set by the Texas A.G. Ken Paxton as well as the Attorney Generals from 9 other states who urged Trump to end DACA:

"In a letter to U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Paxton urged the White House to rescind the 2012 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, program. DACA applies to undocumented immigrants that came to the country before they were 16 years old and were 30 or younger as of June 2012. It awards recipients a renewable, two-year work permit and a reprieve from deportation proceedings.
As of August 2016, more than 220,000 undocumented immigrants in Texas had applied for a permit or a renewal of one under the program, and nearly 200,000 of those have been approved, according to government statistics. It’s the second-highest total behind California’s estimated 387,000 applications and 359,000 approvals during the same time frame.
“We respectfully request that the Secretary of Homeland Security phase out the DACA program,” Paxton wrote. He was joined by the attorneys general of Arkansas, Alabama, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia, as well as Idaho Gov. C.L. Otter.
“Specifically, we request that the Secretary of Homeland Security rescind the June 15, 2012 DACA memorandum and order that the Executive Branch will not renew or issue any new DACA or Expanded DACA permits in the future,” Paxton wrote."

It appears the only campaign promises Trump keeps are the ones that affect the most vulnerable among us. None more vulnerable than the children (who are working & going to school) of undocumented immigrants. For them, months of stress & uncertainty since the election have culminated in the nightmarish reality of Trump ending DACA.

Now the question remains; what's next for the "Dreamers"? Despite everything, the United States has always been a nation of immigrants. I believe the "Dreamers" must remain strong & they will survive this. Some, unfortunately, will be affected but the vast majority will eventually overcome this huge obstacle placed by the Trump administration.
